Voksenåsen Cultural Center

Voksenåsen Cultural Center is seeking an educator to serve as an on-call substitute for “remembrance trips.” The project is part of a Swedish government initiative and involves organizing educational trips to Norwegian memorial sites dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust and Nazism in Norway for school students, primarily those aged 14–18.

Every year, Voksenåsen organizes approximately 40 remembrance trips. These trips are three-day educational programs to authentic memorial sites for the victims of Nazism in Norway, particularly in Oslo. The program combines visits to museums and memorial sites with dialogue-based instruction, reflection exercises, and discussions led by educators or facilitators from Voksenåsen. The goal is for participants to reflect on democracy, anti-Semitism, and personal responsibility in a modern context, using history as a starting point.

Voksenåsen is Norway’s national gift to Sweden and a Swedish-Norwegian cultural center that creates educational meeting places focused on democracy, history, music, and community life. Its activities are carried out through close collaboration between cultural programs, educational projects, and international partnerships.

The Position

As an on-call substitute for the Hågkomst project, you will be part of a small, highly skilled team and help lead Hågkomst trips as needed throughout the year. The role involves accompanying groups throughout their entire journey and serving as a reliable and thoughtful guide for both young people and adults.

The assignments involve both teaching responsibilities and practical/logistical responsibilities during the trips, in close collaboration with colleagues and the project manager.

A typical trip lasts three days. You will accompany the students from their arrival until they return home. Museum visits, as well as the itinerary and educational program, are planned in advance. As a guide and tour leader, you are responsible for the execution of the trip and for ensuring the overall success of the students’ experience. This involves teaching, maintaining contact with teachers and the bus driver, being present at all meals and museum visits, as well as leading reflection exercises and engaging in ongoing dialogue with participants, and managing evaluations and communication with the hotel throughout the trip.
