Environment and sustainability

A responsible meeting place — today and in the years to come

For us at Voksenåsen, sustainability is absolutely essential if we are to remain a relevant and responsible venue, both today and in the years to come. We don’t try to do everything at once, but rather focus on what is most important for our business and where we can actually make a difference.

That is why we have chosen to focus primarily on people, responsible operations, and the long-term management of the site.

Much of our sustainability work begins with the social aspect. Voksenåsen houses both a hotel and a cultural center. These are two distinct entities, with different methods and success criteria—but with a shared mission: to create safe spaces where people can meet, learn, and share experiences. The cultural center focuses particularly on youth, talent development, democracy, and inclusion.

At the same time, a positive work environment is essential. We are committed to fair working conditions, learning, and professional growth, and to ensuring that Voksenåsen is a place where people thrive and choose to stay.

Sustainability is also about the everyday choices we make in our operations. We work systematically to reduce energy consumption, food waste, and unnecessary use of resources. It may not seem very exciting, but over time, these choices make a big difference—both for the environment and for the quality of our offerings.

The building and the property are managed in close collaboration with the Norwegian State Property Agency. It is important to us to preserve both the architecture, the surrounding nature, and the site as a whole. Climate adaptation and consideration for biodiversity have become increasingly important, and we are committed to a long-term effort to preserve Voksenåsen as a place where nature, history, and architecture are intertwined.

We are committed to transparency regarding how we operate. Voksenåsen reports in accordance with EFRAG’s VSME standard for sustainability and is Eco-Lighthouse certified. We prepare an annual environmental report and climate accounts covering areas such as energy consumption, waste, and travel.

Our sustainability efforts are firmly rooted in the Board and management, and are an integral part of how we manage and develop our business. We are open about both our goals and our progress because trust and transparency are fundamental to us.

2025 was a year in which we streamlined, reorganized, and laid a clearer foundation for our future work. With our new strategy starting in 2026, we will build on this foundation, with clear priorities, realistic goals, and an ambition to improve things step by step.
